While he only had a small role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it sounds like there might be future plans for Donald Glover when it comes to the franchise. This should be good news for fans who were definitely excited upon learning that Glover was playing Aaron Davis, who is the Ultimate Comics version of The Prowler and uncle to Miles Morales. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Glover revealed that he is not “ruling out a future with Spider-Man” at the moment as well as revealing that it was director Jon Watts who reached out to him for the role.
Actually, it seems that if he had not taken it, the character might not have even appeared in the film. Glover told the trade that Watts told him that if wasn’t going to “do [the part], we aren’t going to [include] it.” As for The Prowler’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The trade goes on to state:
“In fact, it was Homecoming director Jon Watts who approached Glover, no longer age-appropriate for the part of Spidey, to play a small but meaningful role, which could prove more significant if the studio decides to greenlight a rumored spinoff about Miles Morales, the nephew of Glover’s character.”
Simply based on the fan reaction to the inclusion of Davis and possibility of seeing Miles Morales in the MCU, I don’t think too many people would be against Glover returning. While we just met this latest incarnation of Peter Parker, it also seems that Sony also does have some plans in mind for Davis’ nephew who lives “around” there.
