At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con we, as well as other outlets, got the chance to sit down and interview the cast and crew behind Inhumans. This is our interview with Ken Leung(Karnak) and Eme Ikwuakor(Gorgon) talking about the upcoming project from Marvel Television and IMAX. Unfortunately, due to time, we were unable to talk to Anson Mount or Serinda Swan at the tables.
When asked about tone Ken states “it’s intense and it’s so intimate because it’s about family” and continues on talking about how the characters in the show are all one family in terms of the dynamic between characters.
When asked about the Karnak scene shown at the panel Ken states “it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it.” And “it’s so cool, it was only theory before then.” He also states that he was talked through this scene and how he needed to make it seem like he was making dozens of calculations in moments.
Both were asked what their comic backgrounds were before Inhumans. Eme responds by saying “the only comic I actually remember reading is Kickass.” And also Jeph Loeb explicitly had said to them “stay away from the internet and don’t read the comics.” Eme continues saying that the show is based on the comics but goes into a new direction.
When asked about any difficulties due to IMAX filming or special effects Ken states that “it’s really a challenge of your imagination, like especially with Lockjaw.” Eme also responds with “at the end of the day it’s still kind of this conversation between me and Ken or the other actors as well. Also, this thing is going on in the background as well that will be added on later.”
The pair were also asked about their character’s relationships with one another and they both started laughing and Ken responded with how it’s a “Love-Hate, filling each other’s empty spaces sort of relationship. They are kind of complete opposites in fact.” Eme chimes in and says that they are two extremes with Gorgon being extremely physical and Karnak being the opposite as more mental.
The last question asked ties back into the panel where Eme mentions that there’s a lot of Gorgon in him and goes on to say how freeing it was to be able to think like the character at times when it was needed.
Premiering first in IMAX on September 1 and then on ABC on September 29, Inhumans stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as Louise, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Mike Moh as Triton.
