Netflix In Talks With Disney To Keep Marvel & Lucasfilm Movies
We’re sure you were concerned when Disney announced they were pulling their content from Netflix and intend on starting their own streaming service. Well, there is good news that will hopefully come through.
According to Variety, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that they are in active talks with the Mouse House to keep streaming rights to Marvel and Lucasfilm movies after its distribution deal with ends in 2019. However, regardless of the outcome of this deal, Netflix will not have movies like Frozen 2 or any other Disney studios movies after their theatrical windows end. 2019 is already looking packed along with Frozen 2, the live action version of The Lion King and Toy Story 4.
Variety further mentions that Disney has not yet decided if they will re-up with the streaming giant for the Marvel/Lucasfilm franchises and that they could be added to the to-yet-be named service, broken into their own subscription service or licensed to a third party, which is where the discussions with Netflix come into play.
Oh, and you can relax about The Defenders series leaving Netflix. The service has an extensive, multi-year deal directly with Marvel to create shows for the street level characters.
