Thwip! Sony & Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Homecoming has now officially the biggest superhero film of the year at the box office with $874.4M worldwide. This weekend it added another $6M internationally (which mostly came from China) and an estimated $1.1M domestic which swung it right past Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and into the top spot. Well, at least until the God of Thunder & Hulk smash their way into theaters in less than two months.
Additionally, it passed Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice to become the eighth biggest superhero film of all time worldwide. As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes, Homecoming ranks 5th worldwide and 7th domestically right below the original Guardians Of The Galaxy. Can the film web up another $16.5M and surpass Spider-Man 3 and become the biggest Spider-Man film at the box office? Unlikely. When it’s all said and done though, Homecoming is a bigger success for the studio due to a much smaller budget. Stay tuned for any further updates.
