For years an X-Force film has been in the works at FOX, but now things are finally moving forward. Deadline reports that Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) is set to helm the project, as he will both write and direct the X-Men related film. Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise the role as Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool, along with Josh Brolin as Cable as they lead “a Black Ops force of down and dirty mutant warriors who are far more ruthless than their X-Men counterparts.”
Goddard is no stranger to the superhero genre if you’ve been following him for the last couple of years. Not only did he write the first two episodes of Netflix’s Daredevil, but Goddard also helped create the show. While the film never happened, Goddard was originally going to write a Sinister Six movie for Sony Pictures before the studio made a deal with Marvel to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Brolin will make his debut in FOX’s X-Men Cinematic Universe next year as fan-favorite Cable in Deadpool 2 which opens in theaters on June 1, 2018. Reynolds is executive producing the film with X-Men scribe Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner who has been with the X-Men family since the start. Goddard is set to direct the film right after his current picture Bad Times at the El Royale.
X-Force currently has no set release date.
