Marvel Heroes Omega Celebrates the Age of Apocalypse

With Marvel celebrating its Legacy within the pages of its comics, Marvel Heroes Omega is looking to celebrate a different kind of legacy. The console MMORPG is spotlighting one of Marvel’s most beloved events of the 90s, unleashing the Age of Apocalypse onto its players.

As part of an event called “Apocalypse Awakens,” Mister Sinister and Clan Akkaba are seeking to resurrect Apocalypse and help him reign over humanity and mutantkind alike. It’s up to Marvel Heroes Omega players with heroes at level 11 or higher to attempt to stop them, but they must face off against En Sabah Nur’s Four Horsemen first. And for this occasion, Mister Sinister has come up with truly daunting challenges, having clones of Jean Grey (Death), Storm (Pestilence), Psylocke (War), and Magik (Famine) at the ready.

“When Marvel came to us with an opportunity to bring a huge Apocalypse boss fight to consoles, we jumped at the chance,” Gazillion Lead Game Designer Justin Bartlett said in an issued press release. “As someone who became a Marvel fan thanks to the classic ‘Age of Apocalypse’ event, it means a lot to me personally. I also loved playing all the great games that had Apocalypse as a boss, and I can’t wait for Marvel Heroes Omega players to experience our unique take. We’re extremely excited to be able to create some brand new takes on Apocalypse’s Horsemen for our game — you can even play as them yourself as alternate costumes for Jean Grey, Storm, Psylocke and Magik.”

On top of that, this event will be the first time that the Age of Apocalypse is opened up to the rest of the Marvel Universe in a video game setting. Given the full aspirations of En Sabah Nur, it stands to reason that the Avengers, Spider-Man, the Inhumans, and the rest of Marvel’s heroes will look to stand against him.

The Four Horsemen skins will become available as unlocks for either the Apocalypse Loot Box or the Age of Apocalypse Omega Pack. “Apocalypse Awakens” will also feature Omega items that can be earned with the new Omega difficulty setting. Accessing all of this requires passing the Omega trial first. Details for the Loot Boxes and other additions for this event can be found on the most recent patch notes, which can be browsed in the game’s forums.

Marvel Heroes Omega’s Age of Apocalypse event is available now, but only for a limited time. No word on how long the event will run.
