Doctor Strange Cinematographer Joins Captain Marvel

Fans of Captain Marvel are eagerly awaiting the heroine’s debut on screen. With news that Jude Law will be joining the series and Ben Mendelson being looked at for a potential villain, there are still a number of unanswered questions about the look and feel of the film. Fans know that the production designer for Assassins Creed and Gravity will be joining the film. Now Marvel might be keeping things more in the family by adding the cinematographer from another Marvel film.

According to the MCUExchange, cinematographer Ben Davis will be joining Captain Marvel after his stint as cinematographer on Doctor Strange. The film is slated to begin filming in January. Davis brought a Steve Ditko vibe to the sorcerer supreme. Davis’s Marvel credits include Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy. Davis’s work has helped shape the space portions of the MCU adding visual dimension and color, making Marvel’s take on space considerably more different than previous other franchises.

One can only hope that the application of someone so familiar with adding color to the MCU means that Carol will bring the same color fans have come to expect from MCU staples like Guardians and Thor: Ragnarok. Just what the story will about remain to be seen, but the production has officially moved to California and the script will be pended by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, an air force pilot who gains alien abilities after an accident grafts her DNA with Kree DNA. The Kree, having made multiple appearances in the MCU from both Agents of SHIELD and Guardians of the Galaxy. The film will be set in the 90s and feature Samuel Jackson and presumably the events that shaped Nick Fury into the figure that’s helped shape the MCU at large.

With the MCU preparing to see the end of a number of Avengers by the time Infinity War, Carol’s story has become more and more important. Just what’s in store for the iconic character remains to be seen. Do you have any ideas about what this new cinematographer might bring to the character? Sound off and share in the comments below.

Captain Marvel flies into theaters March 6th, 2019.
