Last week the cast and team behind Marvel’s upcoming young adult series Cloak & Dagger attended the Freeform Summit to showcase the anticipated show. Moderated by Nerdist’s amazing managing editor Alicia Lutes, the panel featured the iconic duo themselves Aubrey Joseph (Ty Johnson/Cloak) and Olivia Holt (Tandy Bowen/Dagger) as well as Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb, showrunner Joe Pokaski and pilot director Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Titled “From Comics to Screen”, the cast and crew spoke about bringing these characters to life as well as the interracial romance to the small screen. While the whole panel isn’t available out there (for now), Freeform did release bits and pieces of the panel which you can watch below along with the sneak preview that came out last week.
“Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters whose story is aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, starring Aubrey Joseph as Ty Johnson/Cloak and Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger. premieres with a two-hour debut on Thursday, June 7 at 8 PM on Freeform.
