Labeled the “most ambitious crossover event in history,” Avengers: Infinity War also earned the most ambitious box office in history, breaking records by earning $258 million domestically and $630 million globally.
It officially displaces Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million) for the biggest domestic opening and The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) for the biggest global opening. The film’s global box office total does not include China where the film has not yet been released.
President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige posted a letter on Twitter thanking fans for their support over the years and for contributing to the biggest opening weekend of all time.

This release brings the entire box office total of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to $15.4 billion, the highest grossing franchise of all time.
Disney can now claim nine of the 10 biggest domestic openings of all time thanks to its Marvel and Star Wars films. The only non-Disney film in the top 10 is Universal’s Jurassic World which also has a sequel coming out in June.
No other wide release film premiered this weekend. The second-highest grossing film domestically was A Quiet Place, which brought in $11 million. Black Panther came in fifth pulling in an additional $4.7 million.
The film has also fared well critically, earning an 84% critic’s score and 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
