FX Renews Legion For Season 3

It looks like Legion will continue to bend minds after all. FX renewed the show for a third season today, less than two weeks before its season finale.

Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season,” said FX president of original programming Eric Schrier in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling.”

Although the show has seen a significant drop in ratings in its second season, a renewal always seemed likely given the network’s relationship with showrunner Noah Hawley. It also makes sense for FX to try to keep a Marvel show on its slate given future development is unclear with the pending Disney-Fox merger.

Hawley is best known for his award-winning anthology series Fargo. While Legion has yet to nab an Emmy or Golden Globe, the show was nominated for a Peabody Award earlier this year.

Legion still has two episodes left in its season, with the finale on June 12.

Legion currently airs on FX on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. The show stars Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, Navid Negahban, Jean Smart and Jemaine Clement.
