Marvel has a lot of floating ships out there. Great ships, good ships, ships that should sink and some that should never have left the dock at all. Marvel’s been building their shipyard since way before Iron Man hit the big screen in 2008. Their ships go back to the early days of comic books and have only gotten stronger!
For those who don’t know the lingo, here’s what Urban Dictionary has to say:
SHIP:
N: Short for romantic relationship, popularized in fan fiction circles.V: To endorse a romantic relationship.
Example:N: I see a ‘ship developing between Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley.V: I ship Ron/ Hermoine.
Like I said, Marvel has their fair share of ships floating out there.
This series will be breaking them all down, specifically as they stand in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU.) Together we’ll discover which ones float and which ones should/ will or have sunk. Let’s start with the newest edition to the MCU Shipyard.
Happy & Aunt May
The new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has been out for a few weeks now. If you missed it, take a look:
This trailer offers a glimpse at a new ship as far as the MCU is concerned. In fact, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, more than a few breadcrumbs were laid down for a potential Iron Man/ Aunt May ship…but that sank rather quickly (thank goodness! More on Tony & Pepper’s ship later) making way for Aunt May to find a new love interest.
With Uncle Ben out of the picture and the youngest, hottest Aunt May, to date, raising Peter on her own, there’s plenty of room for a man in her life.
Enter Happy Hogan, Tony’s faithful man of all trades, portrayed by Jon Favreau. Up to this point in the MCU, we’ve only really seen Happy in the context of his role in assisting Tony. With the slight exception of Iron Man 3, which sees Happy step away from being Tony’s man and has him at Pepper’s side. Though we know Happy truly belongs with Tony at the end of the day!
That’s what makes this ship so refreshing! Happy is a fan favorite for sure. A little romance with his name on it is long overdue.
In the trailer we see Peter Parker making an appearance at an event as Spider-Man for Aunt May. From the looks of things, he’s helping her raise money for some sort of cause. As Aunt May thanks Peter behind the stage, we see Happy enter holding one of those extra large checks. A donation sent from the Stark Foundation perhaps? A flustered Happy sees Aunt May, Aunt May looks back equally flustered. Peter looks on in utter confusion as his Aunt and Happy seem to flirt with each other.
It may not be enough to launch an entire ship, but I’m gonna go ahead and say I have high hopes for Happy and Aunt May! And while it’s too soon to determine whether this potential ship will float or sink, personally, I’m hoping this ship gets to float for the long haul. At least as long as Jon Favreau’s contract lasts!!
