The upcoming Marvel Studios film Shang-Chi, which will be the first Asian superhero movie from the Disney owned company, has tapped Destin Daniel Cretton to direct it! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Tipping (Dear White People), Alan Yang (Tigertail), and Deborah Chow, (The Mandalorian) were up for the directing gig that in the end went to Cretton.
The project, which got announced first in December 2018 when Marvel Studios hired Dave Callaham to pen a script for the film. Back then, it was being reported that they were focused on getting an Asian or Asian-American director to helm the film.
