The Marvel Report had the opportunity to speak with Agents of SHIELD cast members Chloe Bennet (Daisy Johnson) and Jeff Ward (Deke Shaw) in a roundtable interview at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
When asked about Daisy’s journey, Bennet was reflective on how different the character became from the start of the show
“I kind of keep thinking ‘wow, they gave me no warning.’ I definitely didn’t audition to play the character that I’m playing now.”
“It’s been kind of heavy to be honest,” added Bennet. “I definitely auditioned more for the Deke-esque type of character, and it parallels my life in a weird way. Skye and Daisy’s really come into her own and really accepted her power.”
“The line that has made the most sense still since day one, because this was in my audition scene and it was in the first scene I shot for SHIELD, was, ‘With great power comes a lot of weird crap that you are not prepared to deal with.’ …That sentence kind of completely brings everything together in terms of the show, like the struggle of being lost, finding your power and what does that mean whether it’s a literal power or whether it’s your power as a woman or a person, as someone who’s different.”
Concerning the future of their characters, Jeff Ward had an interesting idea for a potential spinoff about Daisy.
“It would definitely be with Deke, and it would probably be about how they were married and having a great time and just retired and kicking it on a beach… It would just be a fantasy show where they go like bungee-jumping.”
“It’s like a YouTube vlog,” added Bennet.
“Have you seen Will Smith’s Bucket List show? It would be like that but with Deke and Daisy.”
Guess we’ll have to wait and see where the characters end up when Agents of SHIELD airs its seventh and final season in Summer 2020.
Agents of SHIELD airs Fridays on ABC.
