Today Sony confirmed the highly anticipated untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will be released April 8, 2022.
The first film in the franchise was a critical and box office success bringing in $375 million globally and winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
While not much is known about the plot of the sequel, it seems safe to say based on the teaser video that Miles Morales will return as the lead protagonist since his logo from the first film is used.
It was previously reported that Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Voltron: Legendary Defender) is set to direct with David Callaham (Wonder Woman: 1984, Zombieland: Double Tap) writing the script.
It was also previously announced that Sony is working on spin-offs of the film including a Spider-Women film featuring female Spider characters as well as a possible TV series.
So far, no information has been released on the timing of those related projects.
