Actor Enver Gjokaj will reprise his role as Agent Daniel Sousa in the final season of Agents of S.H.I.EL.D., according to an exclusive from Entertainment Weekly.
The character first appeared on Agent Carter, which takes place prior to the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Peggy Carter and Howard Stark.
Season 7 will find the S.H.I.E.L.D agents traveling back in time, which explains the character’s appearance.
“One of the things we think is so fun — especially with Coulson, who’s just a fanboy for S.H.I.E.L.D. history — is them just getting to walk right into [that history],” says co-showrunner Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “With Sousa, we had a good opportunity to hit that note with Agent Coulson.”
Eagle-eyed fans predicted a possible crossover last year when star Ming-Na Wen posted a photo of cast wrap gifts, one of which had a tag with Enver Gjokaj’s name.
Agents of S.H.I.EL.D season 7 premieres May 27 on ABC.
