There have been a lot of questions regarding what to call Sony’s “Spider-Verse” but there has been some light shed on the situation. According to IGN’s Jim Vejvoda we have an answer.
It all started with a tweet from the Spider-Man account regarding a new deal to get and watch all the live-action films. The tweet referred to them as the “Spider-Man Universe of Characters” but this is technically not correct.
IGN did reach out to the studio for clarification and were told that the “universe” is called the “Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters” and I kind of hate it.
It feels kind of lazy to me. I’d have called it the “Sony Spider-Verse” or something along those lines because all of these spin-off movies have one thing in common, Spider-Man. If Sony had more than just Spider-Man and his rogue’s gallery, then maybe the name would work a bit better.
Despite the odd naming convention Sony does have a few films in the pipeline. With Venom: Let There Be Carnage being delayed until 2021 there won’t be any new entries into this universe this year. However, there looks to be a few films in the works for 2021. Including Venom we will be seeing Morbius, another solo Spider-Man movie for the MCU, Into the Spider-Verse 2, and a lot more.
