While it might be a few years until Mahershala Ali joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Blade, the iconic Vampire Slayer is on his way. The big Phase 4 presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 ended with a major bang when Ali came on stage to join his fellow MCU stars. While the Academy Award-winning actor has already been in the MCU through Netflix’s Luke Cage, Ali will be getting a second adventure as he’ll bring Blade to the big screen.
So far, very few updates have come out on Blade as its release date remains also a mystery. However, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, some big news has finally come out for the film. The trade revealed that HBO’s Watchmen writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour has been hired to pen the Blade screenplay. According to THR, the film was only looking for black writers which marks a big step for diversity both behind and in front of the camera for Marvel Studios.
Ali was personally involved too, revealing that he will focus on bringing Blade to life both as an actor but also potentially as a producer in some capacity. The next Blade announcement will very likely be whoever ends up directing the film.
