Issa Rae to Voice Jessica Drew in Spider-Verse Sequel

Issa Rae will be voicing Jessica Drew in the upcoming Into the Spider-Verse sequel according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Rae is best known for starring in and co-creating the Emmy-nominated HBO comedy series Insecure.

Although Jessica Drew, also known as “Spider-Woman,” did not appear in the first film, it’s not surprising that she would show up in the sequel given she’s one of the more prominent Spider-Family characters. She’s crossed paths with characters like Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy/ Spider-Gwen in the comics.

It has already been confirmed that Shameik Moore (Miles Morales) and Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy) will be reprising their roles in the sequel. Additional cast members are still to be confirmed.

In addition to appearing in the Spider-Verse sequel, it was rumored last year that Sony is developing a live-action Spider-Woman movie to be directed by Olivia Wilde.

The first Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a critical and commercial success, winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and earning $373.5 million at the worldwide box office.

The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 7, 2022.
