Before The CW had the Arrowverse as their leading DC TV franchise, the network was the home of another iconic beloved superhero drama: Smallville. Starting in October 2001, Smallville told the story of a young Clark Kent, played by Tom Welling, before he became known as the iconic DC hero, Superman. Before there was an endless line-up of comic book/superhero TV shows, Smallville was the primary DC drama as viewers got to see Clark grow up and face multiple trials that would help him become the Man of Steel.
In many ways, hadn’t it been for Smallville’s 10-year run, we probably wouldn’t have Arrow, The Flash, and the many shows that have come to expand the Arrowverse and the DC TV franchise as a whole. On October 16, the Superman prequel will be celebrating its 20th anniversary when it started on The WB (before merging with UPN to become The CW.)
