The CW Puts Gotham Knights Series In Development From Batwoman Creative Team

2021 can’t close out quite yet without at least one more DC TV announcement from The CW! The network revealed today that a Gotham Knights series is currently in development stages from Batwoman’s Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash.

However, not only does it have nothing to do with the upcoming video game of the same name, the potential series is not eyed as a Batwoman spinoff at all, and based on the logline alone; it sounds like this is taking place in a separate continuity:

“In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.”

Based on that synopsis, it’s clear that this would be set on its own Earth since Bruce Wayne on Earth-Prime, played by Warren Christie, nor is Gotham without a protector since Ryan Wilder and her team are protecting the city. Should Gotham Knights go forward, it would join several DC properties like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman & Lois, Stargirl, and the upcoming Naomi series that premieres in January 2022.
