After tons of speculation that the Thunderbolts were coming, now we have confirmation. Deadline reported today that Marvel Studios hired Jake Schreier to direct a Thunderbolts film.
Eric Pearson (Black Widow) is writing the script.
Schreier has directed film and television including Paper Towns, Kidding, and Lodge 49.
Who are the Thunderbolts? The Thunderbolts have a somewhat complicated comics history, as they first presented themselves as reformed villains who actually still were villains.
The original team was led by Baron Zemo. Eventually, the team does become real heroes and are later led by Hawkeye Clint Barton.
Bucky Barnes has also been a member of the team in the comics. As of now, no casting has officially been confirmed.
With Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) gathering up her own super team including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell), it seems likely she may be involved. And of course Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) is still out there.
