SDCC23 Interview – Justice League: Warworld

Vanessa and Keenon discuss Justice League: Warworld with the Creative Team

Warner Bros. Animation recently released Justice League: Warworld, the latest feature-length animated film in the Tomorrowverse animated franchise led by Executive Producer Butch Lukic. Vanessa and Keenon had the opportunity to interview several creative team members including Lukic, Jeff Wamester (director), Jim Krieg ( producer), and screenwriters, Jeremy Adams and Ernie Altbacker.

Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, The Boys, The Winchesters) and Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Glee) are reprising their roles as Batman and Superman respectively. Stana Katic (Castle, Absentia) completes DC’s “Trinity” as Wonder Woman and Diana Prince. Our heroes find themselves in different, individual worlds with no memory of their past, yet they still choose to be heroes. Wamester said the film was treated like a “Twilight”-type show telling three different stories that eventually merge into one. Each character is asked what motivates them to fight without their history or memories of the past. Would Bruce Wayne be a vigilante without the loss of his parents?

“Why should ‘Warworld’ be one gladiatorial pit?” Krieg, producer, asked. He explains each character finds themselves in different periods of the DC universe that you do not often get to see: the Westerns, the “sword and sorcery” world and the horror world. It can all happen in different neighborhoods within Warworld. Somehow the “Trinity” comes together to defeat the big bad and save the day.

The voice cast also features Ike Amadi (Mortal Kombat: Onslaught) as Martian Manhunter/J’onn J’onzz, Troy Baker (The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite) as Jonah Hex, Matt Bomer (Doom Patrol, American Horror Story) as Old Man, Roger R. Cross (Coroner, Dark Matter, 24) as Machiste, Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chicago Fire) as Bat Lash, John DiMaggio (Futurama, The Super Mario Bros. Movie) as Lobo, Robin Atkin Downes (Batman: The Long Halloween, The Strain) as Mongul, Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Billions) as Agent Faraday, Rachel Kimsey (Justice League Action, The Young and the Restless) as Mariah Romanova, Damian O’Hare (Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2) as Deimos, and Teddy Sears (The Flash, Chicago Fire) as Warlord. Additional voices include Trevor Devall (F is for Family, Guardians of the Galaxy), David Lodge (Naruto: Shippuden) and Kari Wahlgren (Rick and Morty, DC Super Hero Girls).

Additional movies in the Tomorrowverse franchise are Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Justice Society: World War II, Green Lantern: Beware My Power and Legion of Super-Heroes.
