Superman: Legacy Casts Its First Role Since SAG-AFTRA’s Strike

James Gunn’s Superman Legacy has cast María Gabriela De Faría to play Angela Spice, aka The Engineer, who will serve as a villain for the movie per Deadline. This is the first casting for the movie since SAG-AFTRA’s 118-day strike. The last casting was Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, which was reported on July 12th.

The character of The Engineer has nanotechnology built into her bloodstream, which gives her powers alongside a full-liquid body. These powers include shape-shifting and creating solid objects. The Engineer is a part of the DC WildStorm team, The Authority. This practically confirms De Faría will star in The Authority film following Superman: Legacy, which Gunn confirmed with his slate announcement video on January 31st.

De Faría is a Venezuelan-born actress who’s starred in Deadly Class, Isa TKM, and Yo soy Franky. She will be joined by David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, and Carrigan.

Characters that are confirmed to appear but have not been cast yet include Jimmy Olsen and Lex Luthor. Superman: Legacy eyes its filming for early 2024 and will premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025, recently confirmed by Gunn to not be delayed.
