Cozy Up With Apple TV For Your Fall Viewing Needs
Apple TV made an impressive Hall H debut at San Diego Comic-Con this year, and we were thrilled to snag a ticket to their panel and take in all of their offerings. The weather may still be warm, but the calendar says fall is near, and I can’t wait to cozy up with lush soups, pumpkin spice everything, and some good television viewing over on Apple. Here are some fun projects coming out on Apple TV that you should absolutely add to your fall calendar:
Mayday (film) – September 4, 2026
Mayday’s directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein joined the enthusiastic crowd in Hall H to introduce us to the film. It stars Ryan Reynolds as Troy Kelly and Kenneth Branagh as Nikolai Ustinov. Kelly (Reynolds) is a U.S. Navy pilot who finds himself in a hilarious, unwitting partnership with American pop culture-loving ex-KGB agent Ustinov (Branagh) after Kelly’s secret mission in Russia goes awry.
I love when two unexpected chaos gremlins come together, so I’m excited to check Mayday out. We were treated to an extended sneak peek of the film featuring the spectacular chemistry between Reynolds and Branagh. The sneak peek, which you can see here, felt a lot like Spies Like Us, which is a film I absolutely adore. So, if you’re a fan of a good spy/buddy comedy, then Mayday is the perfect film to kick off your fall!
Matchbox: The Movie – October 9, 2026
The film, described as a global thrill ride about friends relying on nostalgia to cope with anxiety, looks like a really fun time. And at a time when many of us are also doing our best to cope with the anxieties and demands of adulting, Matchbox: The Movie is the perfect escape. The panel featured the fantastic cast: John Cena (Sean), Jessica Biel (Aimee), Sam Richardson (Crosby), Teyonah Paris (Charmaine), and Arturo Castro (Ted). I was blown away by their chemistry and how much they genuinely enjoyed each other, which will no doubt be apparent on screen as we see in the film’s trailer.
Cena started off the panel with a bit of comedy and action by showing off his water chugging skills. We learned that Sean (Cena) returns to his hometown and finds himself caught up in an extraordinary adventure to save the world with his friends who are living pretty ordinary lives. The cast shared some of the amazing locations they filmed in, including Morocco and Slovakia. This film looks like it will deliver on the laughs and the action. Mark your calendars for October 9 and be sure you’re all stocked up on your popcorn!
Dark Matter Season 2 – August 28, 2026
Of course, Apple has lots of great television series as well. Fans were treated to the trailer for Dark Matter’s new season at the panel. The streaming service also offered fans a special screening of the season 2 premiere. The panel featured Blake Crouch (Creator/Executive Producer/Showrunner), Matt Tolmach (Executive Producer), Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry (Executive Producer), Joel Edgerton (Jason Dessen), Jennifer Connelly (Daniela Jessen), and Dayo Okeniyi (Leighton Vance).
In the show’s debut season, viewers followed the story of Jason Dessen who was snatched from his ordinary life as a physicist and family man into an alternative reality. We learned that the show’s sophomore season will begin with the Dessens trying to get back to normal and quickly discovering that’s no longer their reality. Crouch shared that the new universe explored in Season 2 is called World 26 and talked about how it was “freeing” to write stories beyond the show’s source material of his 2016 novel. While the Dessen family struggles with the fallout of Jason’s (Edgerton) obsession with the Box, Leighton (Okeniyi) continues his pursuit of utopia and Amanda (Alice Braga) and Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) team up in an attempt to get home.
Dark Matter Season 2 will debut on August 28 and drop weekly through October 30. If you dig a good multiverse story, this one is for you!
Looking Ahead
Neuromancer – January 22, 2027
Apple TV isn’t just for cozy fall television viewing – you’ll be covered for the winter months as well. The streaming service provided fans a sneak peek of the cyberpunk sci-fi thriller Neuromancer, based on the 1984 William Gibson novel, which will debut on January 22, 2027. The 10-episode season stars Callum Turner (Case), Briana Middleton (Molly), Joseph Lee (Hideo), Mark Strong (Armitage), Clémence Poésy (Marie-France), Peter Sarsgaard (John), and Emma Laird (Linda). Turner joined us “from a different grid” via video and shared an exciting trailer. He sang the praises of Gibson’s work, noting that the author “didn’t just give us cyberspace . . . he helped define the entire cyberpunk genre.” The action-packed trailer features an impressive backdrop of Chiba City, Japan, and an ominous voiceover with Turner’s Case and Strong’s Armitage about purpose. Turner shines as Case and Middleton looks perfectly cast as his “razor-girl assassin” partner in crime.
The first two episodes will drop on January 22, 2027, followed by single-episode weekly drops through March 19, 2027.
Widow’s Bay Season 2
Hall H was the perfect forum to celebrate the multi-Emmy-nominated (19 nominations!) standout series, Widow’s Bay. Fans were thrilled at the news from series creator Katie Dippold that the writers’ room for the show’s sophomore season is officially open. Dippold was joined in Hall H by Hiro Murai (director), Kevin Carroll (Bechir), Dale Dickey (Rosemary), Kingston Rumi Southwick (Evan), Stephen Root (Wyck), K Callan (Ruth), Jeff Hiller (Dale). Series star Matthew Rhys was unable to attend in person, but to the delight of fans, joined via video and answered a few questions.
The panel’s fun, celebratory tone was perfectly captured by Dickey’s reaction to the news of her Emmy nomination, “Dear God in heaven, what the hell just happened.” The cast reflected on the show’s tone and their characters, with Root observing, “I love being myself a little more in this role than in a lot of other roles I’ve done.” They also discussed some of the shocking revelations in the season 1 finale, particularly Ruth’s (Callan) connections to the founding of the island and other characters on the show. Callan shared that she was just as surprised as the rest of us, as she knew nothing about Ruth’s ties when she read the pilot. Callan shared her appreciation for Dippold and Murai, “I had no idea what Ruth’s journey was going to be. I just put my life in Katie and Hiro’s hands, and thank goodness.”
Filming is set to begin in early 2027, so no release date yet. Season 1 is the perfect addition to your fall/winter binge list, along with Apple TV’s Silo (Season 2 currently airing).
