Agent Carter has added another talented actor for the second season. The ABC show has added Kurtwood Smith in a recurring role as a character named Vernon Masters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news, Masters is “a veteran of the War Department with a keen understanding of how to work the system.”
Smith previously worked with Agent Carter showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas on the short-lived Resurrection. Marvel.com reports that they, along with fellow Executive Producer Chris Dingess, were excited by the prospect of working with the actor again.
“We had the pleasure of working with Kurtwood…and were well aware of what a commanding presence he is.
So when we were developing the character of Vernon Masters, we wrote it with him in mind. We just never thought we could actually get him. Thankfully, we were wrong.”
Smith joins the growing cast which recently added Wynn Everett as Whitney Frost/Madame Masque, Currie Graham as Calvin Chadwick, Reggie Austin as Dr. Jason Wilkes, and Lotte Verbeek as the finally-we-get-to-see-her-face Ana Jarvis. Of course Hayley Atwell will be returning as Peggy Carter herself alongside allies James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis and Enver Gjokaj as Daniel Sousa (among other familiar faces) as they venture to Hollywood. It is in Los Angeles where she will face “her most dangerous mission yet.”
But Peggy Carter taking on a man who knows how to use the system to his advantage? That just sounds like a typical day of work for our favorite non-super powered heroine.
Agent Carter will return in 2016!
