After X-Men: First Class, were you left curious about what was going to happen with the Hellfire Club? Now we’re getting the chance to learn more about the group. Entertainment Weekly reports that 20th Century Fox and Marvel Television are developing a series based around the Hellfire Club comic entitled Hellfire. The pilot is being written by Patrick McKay (Star Trek 3) and JD Payne (Star Trek 3), with a story written by Evan Katz (24) and Manny Coto (24, Odyssey 5). Executive producers of the pilot include Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), as well as Katz and Coto who will also be acting as showrunners.
The project willl be set in the late ’60s and will follow a young special agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world. In the Marvel universe, the Hellfire Club often goes toe-to-toe with the X-Men.
No word yet on how the Hellfire Club depicted in the pilot will be related to the Hellfire depicted in X-Men: First Class, but they will be set in the same universe.
What do you think about a Hellfire pilot? Do you think this is a viable property or would 20th Century Fox be better served by developing another part of the X-Men mythos?
