Last week, Ben Affleck appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show to give us the third and final trailer to next years superhero epic, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The nearly three minute trailer was packed with tons of reveals, including the confirmation that Doomsday is in fact in the movie, along with many more. But, is Doomsday the big bad that unite our heroes or is something more sinister on its way?
French magazine, Premiere, caught up with production designer Patrick Tatopoulos and managed to get a few new, and surprising, details out of him. Here’s what he had to say:
“We are able to tell a story in a fresh way. Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way”
Regarding if Superman dies in the film, Lex’s plan, and more on Doomsday:
“When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something,” he explained. “We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod… then how would that evolve into Doomsday.”
Fans across the internet have cried out saying that the trailer revealed to much about the movie; however, it’s noted that there is “larger threat” at play. The clash between Doomsday and The Trinity (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman) does not take place in the third act of the film like many (myself included) had assumed. Tatopoulos goes on to say that those feeling they know too much this early are going to be in for a true surprise.
What are your thoughts? If Doomsday isn’t the big bad of the film, then who is? Brainiac? Darkseid? Maybe Cyborg Superman?
