Last year, rumors were floating around that Jon Bernthal’s character Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, who is going to be debuting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the second season of Daredevil (coming March 18), was possibly going to be getting his own show after the new season. Nothing was ever confirmed though and it just lived on as a rumor – till today.
TVLine has revealed that Netflix and Marvel is in fact prepping a Punisher series featuring Bernthal’s character and would be spinning off from Daredevil. While Netflix and Marvel didn’t comment to this report, with the success of Daredevil as well as Jessica Jones, and the high anticipation for Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, it would not surprise anyone that Netflix and Marvel would want to launch multiple shows from the Marvel Universe.
TVLine mentions that they are hearing early good buzz about Bernthal’s take on The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil, hence the why they would want to spin-off the character. It wasn’t mentioned when this show would supposedly happen, whether it be before or after The Defenders comes out, but anything is possible.
Bernthal will star as Castle/Punisher in Daredevil Season 2 which will be released on Netflix on Friday, March 18 and he will have a large presence throughout the new season.
