With a ton of MCU news coming on the back end of the Captain America: Civil War press event today, Marvel and Netflix have announced they’ve found Iron Fist’s Harold Meachum in Lord of the Rings and 300 alum David Wenham.
In the comics, Meachum’s role in Danny Rand’s story is not unlike Obadiah Stane in Tony Stark’s. He’s the long-time business partner and friend of Danny’s father, Wendell…whom is also in love with Danny’s mother, Heather. In his jealousy, Meachum facilitates the death of Wendell on an expedition but offers to save Heather and Danny. She refuses and runs away with her son, right into a pack of wolves whom attack. Heather falls prey to the pack as Danny is able to get to safety.
As one of the most crucial characters setting Danny on his path to becoming Iron Fist, Wenham brings experience with both action and drama to the role of Harold Meachum. A personal connection to Danny’s past driving him.
It will be interesting to see if they age or de-age him for the the expedition scenes, since Meachum is a much older character upon Danny’s return in the books.
In “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
