According to TVLine.com the Agents of SHIELD have a new boss.
That’s right, The mystery that’s plagued fans for most of the summer is finally revealed and Jason O’Mara has been cast as an Agents of SHIELD character whose roots go back to the 1940s.
“Bringing Jason into the mix forces everyone, including Coulson to reevaluate their role in the agency.” said Marvel TV executive Jeph Leob, “Jason has both the physical presence and the acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”
With the idea that the character has his roots in the 1940s, it seems like Coulson and this mysterious new director are prepared to butt heads. Coulson has traditionally operated by using his heart with such mixed results as Daisy Johnson, now apparently a fugitive from the law campaigning for inhuman rights, and Grant Ward who turned out to be a HYDRA operative. The concept of “challenging” loyal agents is intriguing. Could we see Coulson’s team splitting away from the organization’s goals? Is there more to Jason Mara then meets the eye?
Fans might remember him from The Good Wife, Complications, Terra Nova, and Life on Mars. The Irish actor also has experience on the DC side of things voicing Batman in Justice League Dark, Batman: Bad Blood, and Justice League vs. Teen Titans.
Mr. O’Mara joins Gabiel Luna and Lilli Birdsell as new characters to the show. Mr. Luna will be playing Robbie Reyes, AKA Ghostrider, and Lilli Birdsell will be playing Lucy, a woman with a “violent streak” due to something that happened in her past.
So what do you think True Believers? Excited about the possibilities? Intrigued by the mystery? He must be a recognizable name, any ideas on who he could be? Sad it’s not Melinda May? (I sure am.) Hit us up in the comments and tell us what you think.
