Deathstroke to be the Villain in Batman Film

Earlier today Ben Affleck himself tweeted out a very interesting bit of video featuring Deathstroke.  We spotted it first on The Wrap and have since learned that it has been vetted as being a bit of a very quick teaser of the villain for the upcoming standalone Batman film starring Affleck which is also as being directed and co-written by the award winning Hollywood personality.

Here is the bit of video here:

Fans of DC TV shows are no strangers to Deathstroke as he was the prime villain for season two of Arrow and the most prominent villain for the Teen Titans cartoon several years ago.  He is regarded as the best assassin in the DC universe and has run up against the Dark Knight on several occasions.  This will be the character’s first appearance on film and makes for a bit of a notable break from the “classic” Batman villains to be the main antagonist in a standalone film.

Deathstroke’s real name is Slade Wilson and he first appeared in 1980 in The New Teen Titans #2 and was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. One of the most regarded storylines involving Deathstroke is The Judas Contract in the Teen Titans series.  An interesting bit of trivia, Deadpool was conceived as a character to be a parody of Deathstroke and given the name Wade Wilson to make the nod even more obvious.

What do you think of this news?  Are you excited to have Deathstroke appear on film and opposing Batman?  Does Deathstroke’s history with the Teen Titans in the comics imply that we might get Nightwing, a former leader of the Titans, in the film as well?
