Hulu Orders Runaways Series From Marvel Television

Runaways rejoice! Marvel Television is at last bringing the band of super children to the screen! The long talked about fan project finally seems to be reaching completion.

Coming from Gossip Girl’s creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Deadline.com reports that a series is in the works. Created by Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona, the series centers upon a group of children who discover that their parents are part of an evil crime syndicate called “The Pride” whose goal is to bring an alien to earth.

Written by Schwartz and Savage, Marvel’s Runaways will tell the story of six diverse teenagers who must unite against a common cause, their parents. From Molly Hayes (super strength) to Nico Minoru (Magical Powers) the characters are unique, fun, and fascinating.

In a statement, Schwartz said, “I’m a long-time fan of of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life.”

Savage added the following “Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.”

The book series debuted in 2003 and is still in print after a brief hiatus where fans demanded that it be brought back.  Rumors of a film adaptation have been circulating for awhile, but the news comes after an apparent year long conversation between Marvel Television’s Jeph Leob and the writers. Loeb said this in a statement about bringing the Runaways to life.

“We’ve known that the Runaways story would make great television. And being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie who time and again created shows that speak so much to this exact audience, write and produce this series is nothing other then remarkable.”

Schwartz and Savage will be the showrunners of Runaways along with Leob (Jessica Jones, Agents of SHIELD) and Jim Chory (Daredevil)  Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will produce as well.

The opportunities afforded in this show are absolutely incredible and it’s a perfect line up to Marvel’s television universe.  Are you excited that the Runaways are at last coming to television?
