Director James Gunn shared this amazing piece of concept art from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 movie on social media this morning.
This piece is by Artist Andy Park (who you can meet at the upcoming Long Beach Comic Con) and depicts the five main Guardians attacking a massive space creature of some kind with huge tentacles.
We were fortunate enough to attend the Hall H presentation at SDCC, and for me Baby Groot 100% stole the show. My favorite part of this piece of concept art is that while the other Guardians are attacking the beast, Baby Groot just appears to be flying through space, like a child on a swing set or something. I’m imagining him saying “I am Grooootttttttt” as if a child would go “wheeeeeeeeee”.
In his comments, Gunn mentions that the creature is an Abilisk. What are your thoughts? I am a HUGE fan of concept art like this, and this piece gets me even that much more excited for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. I can’t wait.
