Fox Orders X-Men Pilot

UPDATE: Bryan Singer has been announced as the director for the untitled X-Men pilot. Hollywood Reporter reported the news earlier today. We reported yesterday that he would be on the executive producer team. Most know Bryan Singer’s work with some of the previous X-Men films, so it’s no surprise, he’s taking a scratch at directing a X-Men pilot.

Fox has officially ordered the X-Men pilot! We reported  previously that Fox was near reaching a decision, and finally they have. Variety broke the news today about the fate of the untitled X-Men pilot.

The pilot is written by Matt Nix, who is also the executive producer. Also on the producing team is Laura Shuler Donner, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, Bryan Singer, and  Simon Kinberg. The only information we have on the plot right now, is that it will follow two parents trying to protect their mutant child from the government, and in doing so join an underground network of mutants fighting to survive.

Variety:

The Fox project is expected to tie more closely than “Legion” to the X-Men mythos as laid out in the comic books and feature films. “With the X-Men comics, there are a lot of alt universes, so that has allowed me some leeway,” Noah Hawley, creator of “Legion,” told Variety in the cover story from this week’s issue. “And obviously it’s a sort of origin story for David, but none of the other characters that I’ve surrounded him with are from the comics. It’s sort of an invented world.”

With the pilot ordered for the untitled X-Men project, we should expect an official synopsis and casting following shortly after. Hopefully the pilot will be bumped to a full series order.

As always, we’ll continue to update you on the untitled X-Men pilot and all things Marvel.
