The Guardians are coming. With Marvel planning for a summer at the movies, there’s a new game coming, not to mention a theme park ride, but news about the plot and details on the new characters from Mantis to Ego is scarce. Luckily, however, Funko has provided a sneak peek of the Ego the Living Planet. While he looks different, Ego’s presence in the film will offer a new take on the character. Played by Kurt Russell, Ego has more of a lone ranger look according to comicbook.com. While it remains to be seen if Ego will take on his planetary form, he is Peter’s father, and he’ll clearly be important.
Ego’s conception began in the 1960s, when he told Thor that he was the result of a scientist experimenting with his planet when its sun went nova. Gaining sentience, Ego begins consuming resources and planets, acting villainously until Galactus appears and threatens his existence. Thor and Ego team up to battle Galactus, thereby saving Ego.
Ego and Thor do battle on opposite sides multiple times, ultimately reaching a truce when Ego discovers a similar planet creature called “Alter-Ego”. After a battle, Alter-Ego becomes a moon of Ego and the two begin to travel together as a family . How will this connect to Guardians’ Ego? Will Thanos serve as a Galactus surrogate? Only time will tell.
These Funko Pop and Dorbz dolls offer a look at that lone ranger wandering figure from Peter Quill’s past. Check out the photos below and tell us what you think of Kurt Russell’s living planet. This is the first appearance of his face, but the costume has previously been seen at conventions. Like what you see? Hate it?
