RUMOR: James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier Possibly Joining New Mutants

New Mutants has dropped a plethora of news since its announcement, the latest being that James McAvoy is rumored to be reprising his role as Charles Xavier. According to SuperHeroHype, Ana Taylor-Joy (Witch) spoke about her co-star in the upcoming M Night Shyamalan release Split, and how she’d love to be a part of The New Mutants.

“I have [seen the Demon Bear animatic], it’s pretty cool. I’m a big fan so I’d love to be a part of it. I can’t say very much, but I would love to be a part of it. I think this year’s gonna be very exciting.”

When asked about her Split co-star, she replied with, “I mean, I think James is already a part of it isn’t he?” Professor X was seemingly poised to take on a major mentor-ship role within the film.  If this is true, there’s a very real chance he might be involved and shepherd the New Mutants into a positive direction.

The animatic in question debuted on Coming Soon and involves the demon bear, a massive supernatural creature that draws its strength from human emotion.  According to coming soon, the film will be a departure from the typical sci-fi fare of previous X-Men films and involve a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” horror  vibe.

So far Fox’s plans include a Spring 2018 release date for New Mutants. They’ve landed The Fault in our Stars director Josh Boone, and will be  working from a script by Boone and writing partners Knate Lee, Scott Neustadter, and Micheal H Weber.  With speculative casting like Maisie Williams as the mutant Wolfsbane and Ana Taylor-Joy herself as Magik, this so far looks like an incredible film.
