Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Spotlight: Yondu And The Ravagers

When the new Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer dropped on Sunday, fans may have been surprised to see Rocket and Groot welcoming Yondu to the Guardians. The last time we saw Yondu and the Ravagers, they was leaving Xandar with a fake Infinity Gem. So what’s in store for him now? When Collider visited the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, they learned about Yondu’s new role in the film, including what’s happening with his former Ravager family.

Marvel President Kevin Feige on the Infinity Gem switch:

“I think it shows that he [Yondu] cares about [Peter] Quill maybe more than he even admits, but there are other Ravagers who think that was shitty and think they should have hunted him down and killed him right on the spot.”

We always knew that Yondu had a soft spot for Peter, otherwise he would have dropped Peter with his father years ago. Collider also notes that this “soft spot” will trigger a Ravager mutiny against Yondu. This explains why he’s a part of the new line-up in Guardians.

Feige explained that Yondu’s Ravagers aren’t the only Ravagers in the galaxy.:

“We learn that there are many Ravager factions of which Yondu controlled one large faction, and a faction that frankly was not necessarily beloved by the other Ravager factions, in large part because they did things like traffic kids from one place to another. Taserface thinks, ‘Yeah, who cares about those other Ravagers? And this guy getting soft, we’re gonna be …’ we never say pirates of course, but that’s sort of the inspiration for them regardless.”

Space pirates and a Ravager rivalry sound like fascinating plot elements for the new film. Taserface, being a main instigator, will also team up with several characters in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, including Ayesha and Nebula.

Feige:

“[Ayesha] she’s the one who hires The Ravagers to go after Quill. [Nebula] she does spend some time teaming up with Taserface through much of the movie too.”

This confirms earlier reports of Ayesha’s motivations in the film. It sounds like Taserface will team up with as many people as possible to take down Yondu and his Ravagers — maybe even Quill and the rest of the Guardians.

Which Taserface team up are you looking the most forward to? Are you excited for Yondu joining the Guardians team? What do you think about the fractions between the Ravagers? Let us know in the comments! As always, we’ll continue to update you on Yondu, The Ravagers, Taserface and all things Marvel.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theaters May 5th.
