Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Spotlight: Nebula and Gamora

With the film only three months away, it’s a no brainer that more information regarding the film is public. Two characters from the first film are back and we’ve got more information about their journey in this film. The roles of Nebula and Gamora have been revealed for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

Colldier got to visit the set of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and  what they learned about Nebula and Gamora is pretty exciting in my book. Nebula’s reappearance will happen much sooner in the film than most might have expected. She will be reintroduced at the beginning when the Guardians are at Sovereign.

Collider:

“We’re going to see Nebula early in the movie when we learn that the payment for the Guardian’s mission on Sovereign is to get Nebula back.” Feige continued, “The Sovereign have captured Nebula, and are exchanging her for the services of the Guardians helping them. And they want to take Nebula back to Xandar to have her arrested. Things go awry on that journey and she becomes a much bigger player in the film than she was in the first one.”

Nebula will be getting a new hand as well though Karen Gillan wasn’t offering much more information than that to Collider. On top of, Nebula getting a new hand and a bigger role in the film, we’re going to get to see her motivations, learn about her past, and including her fractured relationship with her sister, Gamora.

Gillan teased, “We learn a lot about their backstory actually and what happened to these two girls growing up and actually how awful it was for them and how it’s ruined their relationship and they’re sort of just gonna freely talk about it, which has never happened between these two people.” Saldana also added, “… through their relationship you’re getting a closer idea of what Thanos is really about. I think it’s really interesting to open up that window.”

Though Nebula and Gamora are Thanos’ daughters, there won’t be any flashbacks in the film of Nebula and Gamora with Thanos. For those who were looking forward to seeing Thanos in this film at all, we’re sorry to say that Thanos won’t physically be in the film. The two sisters are simply going to talk about their past and their adoptive father.

The other half of this sister dynamic, Gamora, who is a big player in the Guardians team also is expanding her role in the new film.  Zoe Saldana mentioned that Gamora is the mom of the team and will continue to be so. However, she did offer this:

“But now it’s like, ‘Okay, if we’re gonna be sort of like bounty hunters or whatever it is that we’re gonna do in the universe, let’s just establish some rules and let’s stick by it.’ Like, what’s your title? What’s your title? She’s definitely really OCD about that. Hasn’t changed. I think it’s gotten worse. She should probably go talk to somebody.”

So, what does all of this mean for Gamora and Peter? Their dynamics is one of the best things about the first film, and according to Zoe, the dynamics between them will be just as fun as ever. Maybe even more!

Saldana to Collider:

“They’re becoming a really good team, in the way that like oil and vinegar are [laughs], where it’s good together, it tastes good together, but they tend to still stick to their own things.” Saldana also added, “And I think Peter may have gotten a little more annoying. [Laughs] And Gamora’s just a little too rigid sometimes. So through the dynamics that are happening around her, she learns to relax.”

Who’s excited for more of Peter’s not so smooth moves and Gamora’s “I’m a warrior; I don’t dance” rigidness? We definitely are! Are you excited for Nebula to have a bigger role in the film?
