New Guardians Of The Galaxy Images Deliver That Bigger, Better Sci-Fi That Was Promised

Guardians of the Galaxy keeps dropping new easter eggs and goodies left and right.  Fitting, since the superbowl is a contest of champions that the Guardians would most likely appreciate in parts or in pieces.  In addition to a number of new promotional materials, writer James Gunn also let loose with a slew of brand new trailer screencaps featuring an up close and personal look at the Galactic Heroes. Gunn had this to say on the topic:

Oh my gosh. This may be FB posting overload (sorry if so) but SO much cool stuff was released today I want to share it all with you!

When pressed about what inspired these images he said that he was inspired by Flash Gordon and the films of Wong Kar Wai, a Hong Kong based filmmaker.  Flash Gordon, an early space adventurer famed for brash encounters and multiple romantic liaisons makes sense, and Wong Kar Wai’s visuals are intense, vivid and breathtaking full of color and light. Check out a sample from the film In the Mood For Love.  These gorgeous visuals def. seem to contribute to the director’s work , showcasing gorgeous cinematography both in space and in the space between us.

The images range from more of Mantis (hands up if you’re as excited as we are for Mantis and Drax and their potential friendship!) to more shots of the obvious star of the film – Baby Groot.  Either way these brand new visuals are here on the internet suitable for framing.  You can check out the gallery below of all 15 utterly gorgeous high resolution stills.

It’s directed by James Gunn and headed to theaters May 5th 2017.
