Plot: Daredevil confronts Peter Quill over some missing money from the robbery last issue. Peter finds out his elderly friend, Edmund Allen, took the money. After Peter returns the money to Daredevil, Peter mentions Edmund’s name which interests Daredevil.
Story: Chip Zdarsky creates a scenario that allows Peter to become more adjusted to life on Earth. Because of his recent job at the Bar With No Name, Peter has a place that feels comfortable for him. Even though this is a super villain bar, the different customers remind Peter of all the places he went while traveling through space. Zdarsky’s style of dialogue really suits Peter Quill and helps make the words more genuine for the character.
Another example of the great dialogue occurs when Peter finds out his elderly friend Edmund took some of the stolen cash. I enjoyed how Peter did not give a big traditional speech about the dangers of stealing and Instead he just asks for the money back so he would no longer be blamed. This particular scene reminds the reader that Star-Lord may not be a traditional hero but he’s still a good guy. Zdarsky also sets up an interesting future plot for Star-Lord involving his half-sister Victoria.
Art: Kris Anka does an amazing job with the artwork. I liked how he decided to draw Peter with a full beard to show the passage of time. Plus Matthew Wilson does a great job matching the colors with the setting of each scene. The entire issue looks like an entire day has passed and it’s in no small part to Wilson’s color choices.
Verdict: This was a fun issue that continues Star-Lord’s Earthbound vacation. Zdarsky also gave us a hint at what Peter Quill will have to deal with post-Grounded. Also Anka’s art and Wilson’s colors help bring the story to live. Overall, if Star-Lord is your favorite Guardian then you should pick this up.
