Dark Phoenix, Deadpool 2 and New Mutants Get Release Dates

Fox has been knocking it out of the park with their new takes on X-men.  From Logan to the genre defying Deadpool these aren’t the X-men people are familiar with.  Fox is poised to follow up on these films with 3 new films for 2018.  X-Men: New Mutants, X-Men: Dark Phoenix,  and the film we’re all looking forward to – Deadpool 2.  According to deadline.com, the 3 pictures are slated for summer 2018 releases – some poised to do battle against other major franchises.  Will the X-Men’s lucky streak hold out and continue to offer another take on popular marvel properties?

First up is X-Men: New Mutants with a release date for April 13th 2018.  It faces competition from Universal Studio’s untitled monster movie.  After April, June 1rst gives us Deadpool 2.  With the announcement of Josh Brolin as Cable, the film starring Brolin, Zazie Beets as Domino, and of course Reynolds as the merc with a mouth – Deadpool 2 stands alone in June as the solo tent pole feature – so far.  With a 363 million total gross Deadpool is poised to clean up the competition.

Finally, November 2nd 2018 gives us X-Men: Dark Phoenix starring Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones as Jean Grey and (presumably) dealing with her relationship with the Phoenix force.  Given the presence of Cable and the fact that Cable’s mother is Jean Grey’s clone we’re watching Dark Phoenix with great interest.  Fox has set up the idea of “cloning” in the Marvel Universe with Logan.   Is it possible that we might see a connection between the two? Will there be references to the future mentioned in Logan from Cable? Only time will tell.

Fox has been offering a different perspective from the Marvel Universe and while we all wish that Fox and Disney would come to an accord regarding the “children of the atom”, also known as mutants, they’ve been standing very well on their own.  Are you excited for these movies?
