Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Given September Release Date

Capcom has issued a release date for its latest crossover fighting game between its mascots and the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is set to arrive on September 19. Capcom is celebrating the announcement with a new trailer that sets the stage for the game’s cinematic Story Mode.

If the Capcom and Marvel worlds have one thing in common, it’s that they both feature a killer android with the ultimate goal of putting an end to all biological life. So surely enough, the trailer kicks off with long-time Avengers villain Ultron and central Mega Man X antagonist Sigma hitting it off over their mutual genocidal aspirations. The two use the Infinity Stones to fuse together, creating Ultron Sigma. They proceed to create a dystopian new world filled with hostile robots, with only the heroes of the Marvel and Capcom universes to stand against them.

The trailer also confirmed nine new playable characters. Marvel fans will recognize Ultron, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, and Rocket. The Capcom side will get Street Fighter‘s Chun-Li, Strider Hiryu (star of his self-titled series), and Chris Redfield of Resident Evil fame. Sigma is also being offered as a Deluxe Edition incentive, which also tosses in six DLC characters and six premium costumes. With the exception of the two all-new lead villains, today’s confirmed playable characters all make their return from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. They join Ryu, Mega Man X, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel, who were announced during the game’s initial reveal. Captain America and Morrigan were also revealed the next day.

That brings the confirmed playable roster to 15 from across both universes. It should be noted that there are no signs of non-MCU heroes as of yet, which should continue to feed the rumor mill that the X-Men (who helped get Capcom’s crossover franchise started) will not be invited to this party.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Check out the new trailer and share your thoughts in the comments.
