Dazzler Confirmed for X-Men
Charles Xavier and his band of mutant heroes will face off against the dangerous Phoenix Force in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix and it appears that the mutant roster will continue to expand. After an X-Men: Apocalypse deleted scene teased her existence, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that casting calls have gone out for the role of Dazzler.
Dazzler was first acknowledged when Cyclops and Jean Grey found her album cover in the aforementioned deleted scene on a trip to an 80s record store. Jean Grey actress Sophie Turner added fuel to the potential Dazzler rumor with an Instagram post, in which she made a subtle Taylor Swift reference. This led to rumors that Swift was being considered for the mutant songstress role.
Entertainment Weekly’s sources note that there is no plan to have Swift play Dazzler at this time, but the casting call is out there for what is being described as a minor role. So don’t look for much from Dazzler beyond a cameo, which may or may not include one of her songs.
Dazzler (a.k.a. Alison Blaire) first debuted in 1980 in Uncanny X-Men #130. Mainly known as a singer, Blaire also has the ability to manipulate light and sound. Blaire parlayed this power into her music career, where she would basically create her own special effects, before joining the X-Men. Dazzler was most recently seen in G. Willow Wilson’s A-Force series, fighting alongside a full team of fellow female superheroes.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix, directed by Simon Kinberg, is scheduled to release in theaters on November 2, 2018.
