Filming for the second season of Jessica Jones is currently underway in New York City. So far not much is known about the series. Today we have some casting news via Entertainment Weekly. J.R. Ramirez has landed a role as a series regular named Oscar. He will be Jessica’s (Krysten Ritter) new neighbor, with a young son who is captivated by her powers. However, Oscar is wary of the trouble that seems to follow the sarcastic, super strong P.I. around.
Throughout season 1, Jessica’s neighbors played a large role in her story. There was Malcolm (Eka Darville) who started as a junkie and turned into a friend. There were also the tragic Ruben (Kieran Mulcare) and his twin sister Robyn (Colby Minifie) who cause plenty of trouble. It will be interesting to see where Oscar and his son will fit into this equation.
Ramirez is known for his roles as Julio on Power and Ted Grant Arrow. Executive producer Melissa Rosenberg praised the casting.
“J.R. is an incredible addition to our cast, bringing complex and subtle emotion and humor. He exudes warmth, edge and intelligence, and blends perfectly with our tone.”
Jessica Jones season 2 will focus on Jessica’s recovery after defeating Kilgrave (David Tennant). It will also further develop the relationship between Jessica and her adopted sister/BFF Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor). New additions to the cast also include Janet McTeer in an undisclosed role and Leah Gibson as a woman named Ingrid.
Jessica will make her next on screen apperance in The Defenders. The highly anticipated show features a team up between Jessica, Matt Murdock Daredevil (Charlie Cox), her old flame Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) against Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra.
Jessica Jones season 2 is rumored to premiere sometime in 2018. The Defenders comes to Netflix on August 18th at midnight PST.
