Ant-Man and the Wasp

SDCC: Marvel Announces Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne

Marvel announced new cast members for Ant-Man and The Wasp, including Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, during their Hall H panel on Saturday.

Marvel announced the news after a presentation celebrating Marvel Studios’ 10 years in film led by Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd and Michael Pena. In addition to Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne was announced as new character Bill Foster.

Fans may remember that Janet Van Dyne, also known as the Wasp, was both wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and mother to Hope (Evangeline Lilly). In the Ant-Man film Hank Pym establishes that Janet (the Wasp) disappeared into a subatomic quantum realm while disabling a nuclear missile and not actually confirmed to be dead.

While it’s anticipated that Hope Van Dyne will take on the mantle of the Wasp in the sequel, it will be interesting to see how the character interacts with her long-long mother or how they’ve written Janet’s return.

This is Pfeiffer’s first Marvel film but many will remember her first comic book film role as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman in 1992’s Batman Returns.

Laurence Fishburne’s character, Bill Foster, has appeared in the comics as Dr. Bill Foster, also known as Black Goliath, the second Giant-Man.

Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6, 2018.
