To say that Thor: Ragnarok looks unlike either of the previous installments in the franchise might be a bit of an understatement. It’s got a much brighter tone, way more colorful and it’s clearly a bit weirder. While some may be quick to draw comparisons to Guardians Of The Galaxy, there’s definitely some inspiration coming from the classic Thor comics coming into play here. While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, director Taika Waititi commented on where he drew inspiration from for the film which included Marvel legend Jack Kirby’s work.
“I loved the kind of cosmic trippy vibe of the Thor comics. Another influence for me was Flash Gordon. I grew up loving that movie.”
In addition to these inspirations, Waititi also had a “dream composer” in mind for the God Of Thunder’s latest solo outing which he revealed to the outlet.
“I’ve often said if Freddie Mercury were alive, I would have asked Queen to do the soundtrack. It just has that feel: it’s a cool bold, colorful cosmic adventure. And it just needed to be fun.”
