Taika Waititi Discusses Thor: Ragnarok Inspiration; Wishes Freddy Mercury Could Have Scored Film

To say that Thor: Ragnarok looks unlike either of the previous installments in the franchise might be a bit of an understatement. It’s got a much brighter tone, way more colorful and it’s clearly a bit weirder. While some may be quick to draw comparisons to Guardians Of The Galaxy, there’s definitely some inspiration coming from the classic Thor comics coming into play here. While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, director Taika Waititi commented on where he drew inspiration from for the film which included Marvel legend Jack Kirby’s work.

“I loved the kind of cosmic trippy vibe of the Thor comics. Another influence for me was Flash Gordon. I grew up loving that movie.”

In addition to these inspirations, Waititi also had a “dream composer” in mind for the God Of Thunder’s latest solo outing which he revealed to the outlet.

“I’ve often said if Freddie Mercury were alive, I would have asked Queen to do the soundtrack. It just has that feel: it’s a cool bold, colorful cosmic adventure. And it just needed to be fun.”

In addition to the above, we have a brand new image from Thor: Ragnarok featuring Loki and Valkyrie at each other’s throats courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Check out the image below and let us know what you think of what Waiti had to say in the comments section afterwards.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
