Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury Won’t Appear In The Next Two Avengers Films

Samuel L. Jackson has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the very beginning in 2008 after his first appearance as S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury in Iron Man. While Jackson’s character played a significant role throughout Phase 1, Fury has since then started to appear less and less in the MCU, with his last appearance being in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015.

Jackson is set to reprise Nick Fury in Captain Marvel which will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, but what about the two upcoming Avengers films? While Avengers: Infinity War has wrapped production, and with the fourth untitled sequel currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia: it doesn’t look like Jackson has been asked to reprise his character for those films.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, Jackson expressed some frustration over the situation. Not only did he bring up his exclusion from Captain America: Civil War, Jackson also stated that it felt weird that his character wasn’t brought in for Black Panther, which will be the studios’ first superhero film featuring an African-American superhero in the lead.

“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [‘Captain America: Civil War’], I’m not in ‘Avengers 3 and 4’. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to ‘Black Panther’-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”

Jackson has a nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios, having done six films on that contract so far. With Captain Marvel set to mark as his seventh Marvel picture, is the studio possibly looking at using Fury in some of the films that will be part of Phase 4 as opposed to using him in the next two Avengers films? Only time will tell.

Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
