It appears that another Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star is possibly joining Captain Marvel! Variety broke the news today that Ben Mendelsohn is being eyed for a villainous part in the upcoming Carol Danvers centric film starring Brie Larson as the titular hero.
According to Variety, Mendelsohn would play the main antagonist that is potentially the leader of the leader of the Skrulls. It was announced back at San Diego Comic-Con that the Skrulls will be making their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in this film.
Should Mendelsohn sign on to the film, he would mark as the third Rogue One actor to join the MCU. Doctor Strange featured Mads Mikkelsen – who played Lyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father, Galen – as Kaecilius. Forest Whitaker, who played Saw Gerrera in the Star Wars prequel, will be making his debut in the MCU next year in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther as Zuri.
Besides the Skrulls’ part in Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero film, all that is currently known about the movie is that it will be set in the 1990s. This is how we’ll see Samuel L. Jackson again in the Marvel films as he will play a younger version of Nick Fury.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury opens in theaters March 8, 2019.
