To begin with, ABC has officially set a premiere date for the beloved Marvel drama. Once Inhumans Season 1 ends, Agents of SHIELD will premiere its fifth season on Friday, December 1 with a special two-hour premiere! ABC President Channing Dungey spoke about the show’s return in an official statement, teasing that Season 5 is “their strongest season yet.”

“We’re so proud of the way that ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has grown creatively every season. The series is a top performer for us especially in delayed viewing where we see almost triple-digit increases. Season five is their strongest season yet, and we can’t wait for the fans to see it. We feel that the move to Friday, creating a ‘genre night’ on ABC, appeals to the show’s loyal fan base.”

They have so far shot the first 7-8 episodes of Season 5. Clark Gregg, who plays Phil Coulson, revealed that he directed episode 6 of the new season which will most likely air in early January 2018. Episode 12 will mark as the show’s 100th episode that will film sometime this fall.

One of the mysteries that got answered during New York Comic-Con is that we’ll not be seeing S.W.O.R.D. in Season 5. Despite the new season being set in space, executive producer and Marvel TV President Jeph Loeb confirmed that we will not see S.W.O.R.D.

The fifth season will feature the return of some blue familiar faces. Ming-Na Wen, who plays Melinda May, revealed in an interview earlier today that the Kree are coming back to cause trouble for our beloved agents.

“We have the Kree to deal with [in Season 5]. We can actually mention that and how strong they are and how blue they are. That’s one element. And then we also have aliens.”

Attendees were fortunate enough to get to see the first 20 minutes of the Season 5 premiere. Based on everyone’s online reactions, Agents of SHIELD fans will not want to miss the new season! They did, however, release the Season 4 blooper reel which you can see below along with a special retrospective featurette of the last season.
