It’s official, ladies and gentlemen: Sony has started working on the upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock a.k.a. the man who will wear the iconic symbiote. The official Twitter account for the upcoming Spider-Man related film released a behind the scenes photo with Hardy as they have started on Day 1.

There is still a lot of questions surrounding this film as there have been several casting news in the last few weeks. Reid Scott (Veep), Jenny Slate (Obvious Child, Zootopia, The LEGO Batman Movie), Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), and Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) have all signed on to the project in disclosed roles.
Ahmed is said to be playing a “popular Marvel Comics character” that isn’t Carnage who is the big bad of the movie. Williams will supposedly play a district attorney as well as the love interest for Eddie Brock. That Hashtag Show revealed a few months ago that Anne Weying was being cast, which could be Williams’ role.
Slate is rumored to play a scientist “who works at the company owned by said villain (who may or may not be Carnage)”. No details have been revealed about Scott’s role. Scott Haze (Thank You For Your Service) was last week revealed to be in talks to join the movie.
Venom will be the first installment of Sony’s new Marvel Universe that will stand outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This new cinematic universe is reportedly going to be R-rated, starting with the Eddie Brock centric film.
Ruben Fleischer’s Venom, starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams Jenny Slate, and Reid Scott, is set to hit theaters on October 5, 2018. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the screenplay for Venom, with Amy Pascal, Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad producing.
